Health & Beauty Tips

Dear Kylie-Jane,

This time of year is just gorgeous - not too hot and not too cold.... but just remember to keep adjusting your foundation colour as you get more or less sun as you may find your skin colouring will change. It is always a good idea to have a "summer" and a "winter" foundation and when your skin colouring is in-between you can mix them together to get the perfect colour!

This week we are going to chat about:-

"Nuts" - To eat or not to eat? &

"Slimming Make-Up - some tricks!"

Have a great day !!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy :)

nut Q. I am very health conscious of what I eat, however I LOVE NUTS... but I have heard conflicting stories that they can be both good and bad for you.. what is the truth?

A.  Nuts are fattening. People avoid nuts because of fat content but don't realise they're actually avoiding the good fats (mono- and polyunsaturated fats). They are high-density lipoproteins which balance out low-density lipoproteins (plaque, sticky blood, raised blood pressure, raised cholesterol).

Research shows that eating just a handful of nuts every day can reduce your chances of heart disease, cholesterol and even diabetes.

Top-four nuts
Macadamias are the great Aussie nut. They are considered the world's finest nut and are the only native Australian plant to become an international food. Macadamia nuts are especially high in vitamin E so they're great for your heart.

Lots of people stay away from macadamias because they think they're high in fat but they're highest in good fat and lowest in carbohydrates. For people on low-carb diets, they're the nuts they should be having.

Research has shown that macadamias can help lower blood cholesterol levels, are high in fibre, have no cholesterol, contain a very high proportion of monounsaturated fat, vitamins, minerals and protein essential in a healthy diet.

Almonds are really high in protein, making them a perfect mid-morning snack. They will help fight sugar cravings in the afternoon. Almonds are also high in calcium.

Cashews make our bones and teeth stronger because they're packed with calcium. Cashews are low in fat and high in carbohydrates.

Walnuts are packed with omega-3 fatty acids so they're great for your brain and help keep you regular. Walnuts are often used as a constipation remedy in China for the elderly.
- Remember, try to avoid salted nuts - raw or roasted are the healthier choice
 - If you suffer from a nut allergy avoid all nuts.
 - Just because nuts are healthy doesn't mean you can pig out, try to stick to 10 nuts per day.

Want to learn the secret to applying slimming makeup?

Today your going to learn how to highlight the features that make you look radiant, feminine and slim!

1. Lovely lashes
To achieve goddess-like lashes, don't be afraid to fake it! "False eyelashes enhance what you already have by opening up the eyes and lengthening your natural lashes".
We recommend small to medium-sized individual falsies, rather than full length lashes for a more natural look. "Apply using tweezers and a hand held mirror. Start at the outer corner and work inwards." Allow to dry for a minute then coat with mascara.
· For a dramatic effect, trim the lashes so they vary in length and apply longer ones toward the outer corners.
· Gluggy mascara? Dip the wand in Vaseline or baby oil to clean.

2. Lip gloss
Gone are the days of dark lipstick and lip pencil. Steer clear of both to achieve a natural, feminine look instead. "Choose a soft pink or clear gloss that has a touch of shimmer."
· For fuller looking lips, dab bronzer in the centre of your bottom lip.
· Smaller lips? Colour the entire lip area with a nude pencil before applying gloss.

3. Bronzer

By highlighting muscle tone and bone definition, you create shadows and a leaner look. You can't go past a good bronzer. "It gives a subtle sunkissed glow and is one of the most versatile makeup products you can own."
We suggest using bronzer on any skin that is being exposed. "Use a soft, big brush and ensure you blend it very well."
· Bronzer can be used as a blush and eyeshadow as well.
