cream Q. I'm confused. A beauty counter assistant has told me that I need a night cream. But the ones she showed me don't seem that different from day creams. Do I really need two separate moisturisers?

A. Night creams are often richer and creamier than day creams, but there is no hard and fast rule about using them. It all depends on your skin's needs and your own preferences. If your're happy with your day cream, carry on using it at night. BUT.. if your day cream contains sunscreen, you'd be better off keeping a separate cream to apply at bedtime, as SPF's are useless at night and may contribute to blocked pores. You might be glad of a richer overnight moisturiser in winter, but be better off with a lighter cream in summer.

Kylie-Jane suggests the following

Products,  to use as a Night Cream:

MK Oil-Free Hydrating Gel $60

MK Intense Moisturising Cream $60

MK MelaCEP Night Cream $57

Tips for Lucious Lips

 lipstick

Lipgloss and lipstick can make your lips look fuller, glossier and better! They can add volume to your lips and make them appear bigger if you have thin lips. Below are some tips and tricks & steps to applying lipgloss or lipstick.

Choose the Perfect Lip Product for You

Do you want it to be shimmery, clear, coloured, flavoured or sheer? There are many different kinds out there, so go shopping and take a look at whats available.

Lipstick is usually has a more opaque, thicker consistency than lipgloss.

Lip gloss is usually transparent, or with a hint of color. They can be used as an additional layer over the lipstick for additional shine.

Lip balms are usually transparent, and are designed to protect the lips from sun and wind, and often to soothe chapped lips and cold sores.

Some categories may overlap: You can find lipsticks with SPF protection, lip gloss that is very thick, for instance.

When Shopping, Sample the Lip Products

Sometimes samples are available to comparison-shop. You put these on your hand, never your own lips.

Choose a lipstick colour

Find the perfect shade for you by experimenting with different colours.

Start with a subtle color, something a few shades darker than your lip color.

Avoid 'bright red at first; a newbie mistake is going straight for the loudest red you can find to announce: "I'm wearing lipstick!". Even if you do look great in that color, any mistake, imperfection, or smudge will stand out.

Decide Whether you are Going to Wear lipliner

Today's lipsticks are better formulated than those of the past. For a beginner, it's usually an unnecessary step. If you do, it should be neutral or match the colour of your lipstick.

To Apply Lip Liner - Draw a thin line along the edge of your lips with a lip liner whose color is a shade similar to your lipstick. Start at the center of the upper lip and work outward. Hug the very outer edges to open up thin lips, and line well within the edges to downplay excessively full lips.

lips 2

To Apply the Lipstick - Stretch the lips and start at the center, putting on the lipstick to the corners. Blot the lipstick with a tissue. Make sure the lipstick has not smudged over the line of your lips.

If you Wish to Apply Lipgloss - Either apply it all over your lips, or just apply it in the centre of each lip and rub your lips together to apply an even, thin coat.

Remember to touch lips up after a meal, as lipstick easily transfers onto coffee cups, water bottles and softdrink cans.

TIPS

  • Keep the look subtle. The first thing a person should notice about your look is you, not your makeup. Don't overdo the cosmetics.
  • Any woman can wear red lipstick--just be sure it is a red that suits you. Once you venture to the lipstick counter, you'll discover there are a huge varieties of reds, with varying brightness and tints of purple, gold, brown, and so on. One will do for you.
  • When you apply lipbalm on the final step, make sure it is clear. You can also by balm with SPF protection if you are going out in the sun.
  • Creamy lipsticks help protect your lips from drying out, and many have ingredients that keep your lips soft and help prevent the affects of weather.

Overnight Quick-Fix Treatments

woman sleeping Give your beauty routine a wake-up call with treatments that revitalise, renew, brighten and soften while you get a good night's sleep.

A full eight hours sleep is a guaranteed beauty booster. Sleep refreshes the mind, smoothing away worry lines and making your skin glow. It gives your body a chance to recharge and renew itself - sleep encourages the release of vital skin-building proteins and compounds like collagen and keratin that keep your complexion plump and smooth. But its not just shut eye that can boost your looks - the way you use your sleep time can make a positive difference too. Targeted night treatments can help make a difference by morning.

GET A TAN

Wake up with glowing, bronzed skin by applying quick-drying fake tan after your evening bath. Look for formulas with skin smoothing moisturisers.

USE A HUMIDIFIER

Dry bedroom air sucks moisture from your skin while you sleep, leaving it dehydrated and dull. Try using a humidifier to keep the air moist for smoother-looking skin when you wake up.

HEAL BLEMISHES

If you have any spots or blackheads, apply anti-blemish treatments beore bed to give them time to work overnight. As a bonus they wont mess up your make-up during the day.

GET A NEW PILLOW

Poorly supported pillows can cause wrinkles and puffiness by straining your neck and not allowing fluids to drain. The ideal pillow is high, firm and supports your neck, preventing neck creases.

TREAT IN-GROWN HAIRS

To prevent and treat in-grown hairs while you sleep, rub the problem area with an exfoliating cream containing glycolic or salicylic acid. You can buy these creams at the chemist.

LIGHT A CANDLE

Before you go to bed, light a scentred candle in your room - but remember to blow it out before you fall asleep. Try a relaxing mandarin or lime - these scents will also give your room that will brighten you up in the morning.

 Getting a Good Nights Sleep

AVOID ALCOHOL

It's a sedative, so a glass of wine may help you to drop off, but once you've metabolised the alcohol, you'd be wide awake again

KEEP COOL

Sleep is triggered by a drop in your body temperature, so dont get overheated - keep the bedroom cool and avoid eating spicy foods at night.

USE ESSENTIAL OILS

Sprinkle a few drops of soothing lavender, sandlewood, basil or ylang-ylang essential oil on your pillow.

HAVE A BATH

A warm (not hot) bath helps to ease stress and relax tense muscles, leaving you feeling drowsy and ready for a good night's sleep.
