Washing your brushes to avoid breakouts and to help
bristles last longer....
Wet the brush head,
lather well with shampoo, rinse with warm water and lay flat on a
towel to dry. Brushes for liquid and cream makeup, such as lip
colour, foundation, concealer, cream eye shadow, should be washed
daily. Wash all other brushes once a week, or at least every two
weeks.
A neat tip between
washings: Swipe the bristles with antibacterial wipes after each use.
The brushes will dry in about three minutes.

Choosing the
RIGHT Foundation & Making It LAST All Day!
|
|
Picking the perfect foundation for your skin can be
daunting. It is best to have a Professional Make-Up Artist match you
up with your perfect foundation, however if you don't have access to
that option, here's how to go about it while shopping at a chemist or
department store. Remember, you always want to test before you buy.
This is why it's
best to get your foundations from make-up artist or shop, rather than
from the make-up aisle in the supermarket.
1. Consider
your skin type. Before you pick the right shade, you need to find out
the right formulation for your skin. Are you oily? Dry?
Combination?
2. Pick
the right formula. If you're oily, look for words like 'oil-free' or
'oil-control' on the bottle, or perhaps try a Mineral Foundation? Got
dry skin? Go for moisturising foundations with 'hydrating' or
'moisture-rich' wording on the bottle. For combination skin,
determine if you're more oily or dry and go from there.
Cream-to-powder bases work great for combination skin.
3. Start
with a clean, fresh face. It's OK to wear eye make-up or lipstick,
even moisturiser on your face, but you don't want to start already
wearing foundation.
4. Select
a few colours that seem close to your natural skin tone. Go for the
yellow-based foundations, which look most natural on all skin tones.
However, if you're very fair, try a pink, cooler shade.
5. Apply
a couple dots of each colour on areas of your jawline (the inner
wrist or hand aren't the best spots, contrary to popular
belief).
6. Take
a good, long look - near a window. Ask to borrow a hand mirror and
stand near a doorway, or step outside, to see which foundation looks
best in the natural light. The right shade is one that you can't see
because it blends in so well. If you are purchasing from a department
store, take a couple bottles to a doorway, hold them up to your neck
and see which one matches the best.
7. Once
you've bought the foundation, take it home and try it out. Make sure
you check that the foundation you purchase, has a return's policy on
it, just incase it does not turn out to be the correct shade for you
after all.
Tips:
1. Try
the colour out on your jawline, NOT your wrist or hand.
2. Remember to stand in a doorway or outside to see if the
colour matches.
3. A foundation with sunscreen is a safe bet, but you will
still need to wear sunscreen under your foundation. Also considering
skipping foundation & opting for a tinted moisturiser instead. If
you choose to wear a Mineral Foundation, you will not need to worry
about sunscreen, as they contain a "natural" sunscreen in
the ingredients.
4. Believe
it or not, today foundation is totally optional. It's healthier for
your skin NOT to wear foundation daily. If you have blemishes or
pimples, try strategically placed concealer instead. Or just wear the
foundation on the parts that need it most, likely around your nose
& eyes & on your chin. Just make sure to blend properly.
5. Go
for different looks for evening and day. A light foundation is
perfect for work or weekend. While a sexy shimmer is great for
evening.
How to make it last all day
Many make-up
foundations are advertised as though they can last all day. These
products, however, may feel very heavy on your skin, and in fact any
foundation can last all day if properly applied. Here's how to apply
foundations that last all day long!
1. Start
by cleansing your face with a cleanser of your choice and water.
Apply a moisturiser that it suitable for your skin type - e.g. oily
skin will need an Oil-Control Moisturiser.
2. Apply a foundation primer. There are many brands in the
market - e.g. oil control primer, liner filler primers etc.
3. Apply your foundation. You can use your finger tips,
sponge or a foundation brush.
4. Finish off with a pressed powder. Apply with a gentle
patting motion. The patting action will press the foundation on to
your skin for a longer lasting effect. The result will be a
long-wearing, smooth, flexible and light feeling.
